How To: Care for your wig

Synthetic wigs are definitely a more cost effective wig option, however, it is important to keep in mind they require a bit more love and attention to keep them looking fresh and beautiful!Β

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

πŸ’— soft wide tooth comb or wet brush

πŸ’— spray bottle

πŸ’— fabric softener

πŸ’— satin wig bag (included in all wig purchases)

πŸ’— hair net (included in all wig purchases)

πŸ’— mannequin head/wig stand (optional)

Β

COMBING YOUR WIG:

Even though the synthetic fibres of a wig are smooth, they lack oil that the scalp naturally produces so it is completely normal to experience a bit of tangling - especially at the nape of the neck - after wear. It is therefore super important to make sure to comb through your wig after each wear.

Begin by laying your wig on a flat surface. Starting at the ends of the hairΒ gently comb through any knots using either a wide tooth comb or a wet brush. Make your way up until your wig is knot free.

It's important to use either a wide tooth comb or a wet brush as they are specifically designedΒ not to pull the hair. Pulling can not only lead to excess shedding, it can also damage the fibres which can make the wigs frizzy and more prone to tangling.

Combing through the wig can tend to loosen curled styles slightly, to give this a quick fix and also to help reduce tangling slightly you can mix a 50/50 solution of water and fabric softener in a spray bottle and lightly spray the wig all over. Once the wig is damp to the touch (not dripping wet), gently run your fingers through the strands to disperse the solution. Gently finger curl the fibre in the same direction it is already curled to help to re-curl the wig. Place on a flat surface to dry.

Β

STORING YOUR WIG:

Once your wig is dry and tangle free, there are a few different ways to safely store it.

πŸ’— if you have the space, keeping your wig(s) on a mannequin head or wig stand will generally allow the fibres to fall naturally and keep the wig from tangling while not in use.

πŸ’— satin wig bags areΒ a fantastic way to store wigs safely without taking up too much room in your house. We recommend wrapping the wig back up in its provided hair net before gently placing into the satin bag for storage. Satin is used as it reduces friction and therefore reduces the likeliness of tangling while in storage.

πŸ’— if there are no other options it is also possible to gently store your wig in a comfortably sized zip lock bag.
